New York City subway to be closed from 1 a.m. to 5 a.m. for cleaning during pandemic, Gov. Cuomo says

Starting May 6. New York City’s subway system will be shuttered every night between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. for cleaning and disinfecting during the pandemic Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Thursday. As a replacement the city will provide buses, dollar vans, and “if necessary we’ll provide for-hire-vehicles to transport a person–the Uber, the Lyft, the Via vehicles–at no cost to the essential worker during those hours to provide transport,” Cuomo said. Ridership is down 92% and roughly 10,000 people ride the subway system during that period, according to the governor.
